People, Places and Digital spaces!
Artist Digital Development
I was selected to be part of Signals Media Arts centre's artists digital development programme in Colchester along with 3 other artists!
THE CHALLENGE: Just 4 days in March to develop an interactive workshop to be put to the public at the Signals Plug In Digital Festival!
I began absolutely daunted by how little I knew about technology and how experienced everyone else was, but I came away with an insight into how technology can create a truly collaborative experience between artist and participant...I'd say for four days that's not bad going!
I'm still in early days, but as I slowly learn to use simple tech (using tools created for schools)... so things can only get better!
Here is just a little taster of the fascinating things I saw, learnt and managed to create!
Plug In Digital Showcase
On the 28th of March was the Plug In Digital Showcase! All four of us were to deliver our interactive workshops, which aim to create collaboration between participant and artist. I ran a spoken word workshop, asking each participant to add a word to a poem, and then record themselves speaking that word. I then used scratch and a Makey Makey to create a circuit which meant when touched the poem would sound each word in sequence! The other artists created experiences ranging from painting robots to interactive projection.
People and Places
During 2018 I have been running workshops exploring Luton, it's people and the place with local young people. These workshops have been using arts and technology to explore the towns identity and create art aiming to break down barriers between people and the place in which they live. These workshops will be ongoing until June 2018.
